The Adaptive Tai Chi Process
Adaptive Tai Chi uses scientific research to inform its mindfulness training and fitness programming. The domains that may be addressed are a holistic view of human health: mind, body, spirit, and community.
My Method:

I’m a data junkie. I like looking through scientific and medical journals to find what has been shown to be effective in positively affecting health. It is best practice to provide “evidence-based modalities” to those you serve. My time working in hospitals drove home that I needed to be able to prove why I chose a specific treatment and what should be expected as an outcome from that treatment. I still work that way today.
I also rely on my experience. In my own life I’ve been challenged by physical and mental health. I have found calm, strength, and community through my study of Meditation and Tai Chi. After my personal experience I went to science and found…we agree. And I want to share.
The Adaptive Tai Chi Way:
Tai Chi is an ancient martial art developed by Taoist Monks. It is a series of gentle movements and postures, also known as moving meditation, that assist in developing a mind-body connection through breath.
Tai Chi Forms (movements and postures) can be adapted to target specific physical needs such as balance, strength, flexibility, aerobic exercise, etc. The use of diaphragmatic breathing is essential to both the physical and meditative aspects of Tai Chi.
The importance of meditation for health was integrated into Tai Chi from its conception. We learn to exercise with mindfulness, to focus our attention, to improve our awareness, and to relax the mind and body in a non-judgmental and accepting practice.
Tai Chi embraces spirituality, philosophy, and ritual. Every person has beliefs and experiences about what helps them do better, feel better, and become better. Tai Chi promotes taking time to nurture and accept ourselves. Tai Chi can become a form of self-care.
Tai Chi creates a community of practitioners. Students and teachers come together in a supportive environment to learn, practice, and grow. Quality time is spent together, relationships are built, and a sense of belonging helps create a community.

For over 15 years of my professional career I have honed my skills to know how to adapt, customize, and support individuals of all ages and abilities to fulfill their goals. I am confident I can help you and/or a loved-one be successful in gaining benefits from mindfulness training and adaptive exercise.
